When buying sunscreen product, you definitely will find its variants from SPF 15 to SPF 50. But do you guys know what is SPF and its benefits? Let’s get to know more about SPF!

1. Difference between UVA and UVA

Before you know what SPF is, you must know that there are two types of sunlight, namely UVA and UVB. The letter A in UVA means "Aging" and B in UVB means "Burning". UVB rays can penetrate the outer layer of the skin (epidermis), and UVA rays can penetrate the middle layer of the skin (dermis). So, you need a sun protection product that reads “Broad Spectrum”, meaning that the sun protection product has protective features from both UV A and B rays.

2. Definition of 'SPF'

SPF or Sun Protection Factor itself is a standard measure of protection provided by sunscreen to the skin. The SPF number is a determinant of how long you can be in the sun without getting burned while using the product. In short, the higher the listed value, the longer the protection. So, if it usually takes you about 15 minutes for your skin to start sunburning without any protection, and you use SPF 15, the product will extend your time up to 10 times longer before burning, or 15×15 minutes = 225 minutes aka 3 hours 45 minutes.

3. Benefits of using sunscreen

You could say that sunscreen is the most important key in the skincare stage. If you've been diligent in doing skincare but you don't use sunscreen, it's useless girls! The use of sunscreen regularly and correctly has many benefits for the skin such as protecting from harmful UV rays, preventing premature aging, even skin tone, reducing the risk of skin cancer, preventing sunburn, preventing skin darkening and improving skin health. Use a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 19 and PA++ with UV Protector Advanced Brightening (UVA & UVB) before using makeup or going outside.
